“Lights Out” by Navessa Allen – Book Review

Happy Tuesday, everyone! March has been good to me with 4-5 star reviews – I’m sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop and I end up with a 2-3 star book that I didn’t enjoy in the slightest. So, I’m riding this high and loving the books on my TBR list. Lights Out is a legitimate TikTok/BookTok viral book – so I was hesitant starting it because you should never trust TikTok blindly. But, I did, and here is what I thought of it.

Title: Lights Out
Author: Navessa Allen
Genre: Dark Romance, Comedy
Tropes: Mask K*nk, Stalker/Cat & Mouse, He Falls First
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis

After leaving a comment under a masked man’s TikTok, Allie finds herself being stalked by the very man she was thirsting for online. Lights Out by Navessa Allen is a dual POV, stalker romance filled with laughter, k*nk exploration, and witty banter. It is the first in the Into Darkness series.

My Thoughts
  • Writing Style: The writing was very fun and conversational and it allowed for it to be easier to read/listen to.
  • Characters: I think both Josh and Allie were given strong and intense backstories. Josh being the son of a serial killer sets the stage for mental and emotional conflict. Allie’s backstory helps us to understand why she’s dedicated to being a nurse and why she carries so much guilt. Their witty banter and funny dialogue make the story so entertaining to read.
  • Romance: Dark Romance always teeters the fine line of Aww, that’s kinda sweet and Okay, he needs to be locked up. Both characters have their own way of displaying love languages and you see that shown in the pages.
  • Plot & Pacing: It did slow down at the climax of the book. It turned from a Dark Romance to a Mafia Romance in a way. The last quarter of the book felt like it could be a part of a different book.
  • Vibes: Witty, Dark, Lustful, K*nky, Suspenseful
Who Would Love This Book?

If you like dark romances that has a bit of comedy, Lights Out is a great book for you! For fans of the Ruinous Love trilogy by Brynne Weaver, this is a similar concept featuring an MMC that seems dark and broody but is a little cinnamon roll.

⚠️ Content Warnings: Sexual Content, Discussions of Serial Killers and Off Page Murder, Off Page Sexual Assault, Stalking

Hope you all enjoyed this post – share it with your book friends and in the comments, let me know of other Dark Romances I should read
